Librarians, misunderstood!

Being a Library and Information Science student and at the same time working in Library Services, I had it wrong, all this time. Living in modern society, refusing to conform to what society expects from people, I deprived myself from knowledge. My general outlook was that the internet is the enemy and should be avoided, at all costs, necessary My general outlook on technology was that it posed a dangerous threat to librarianship, currently my bread and butter. I had a misconception on what it meant to be librarian, like many others. Working in a library, people would almost faint with shock and disbelief, when told that qualified librarians have matric

This may be in the form of printed material and (previously reluctant to admit) the INTERNET! The internet is not the enemy as I have realized. It is rather an enhancement or current form of accessing information. It (internet) was invented, just like books to cater to society, when a need was identified. The needs of modern society is that of the internet in order to communicate and locate information. In hindsight, a library is so much more than bricks and mortar, it is wherever information can be accessed.
