Damsel in technological distress
Recapping on the LIB 432 today, it is crystal clear that I have a significant amount knowledge that is missing from my professional and personal make up. It was made clear through listening and observing the lecture, I am still quite inexperienced and therefore not abreast with what is happening around me with regards to technological advances this modern society has to offer. However, I was like a sponge, lapping up this new and interesting information, that was unknown to my mind. What was interesting to me, was the fact that the connotation made between the shifting of time and society. Each notable era in history and present has had the right impact at the right time. For instance, in the past, society needed to broadcast important news, hence the radio and television were invented. Fast forward to present society there is an array of mediums to spread information, the internet, social media and other technological advances. Which made me come to the conclusion, with each passing moment some sort of technological evolution takes place, depending on the specific gap or (consumer) identified. Living in the 4IR, I am aware that in order for me to stay on par with information, I need to utilize and grab every opportunity to gain knowledge, which will ultimately prevent myself from being left behind, where technology is concerned.
I am amazed that I have so much to learn and catch up on; new skills such as RSS feeds and social book marking are things I have learnt about today. https://www.brookings.edu/blog/education-plus-development/2017/04/24/skills-for-a-changing-world-the-global-movement-to-prepare-students-for-the-21st-century/ This makes me wonder, have I been living in my own bubble? I am eager, I am willing and I am not content while there are so many facets of information I have yet to explore! For the longest time, I thought libraries are in danger of extinction, due to the internet, yet it is this mindset all along, which could cause libraries to be left behind. It is thus, in class today that I have realized just as the telephone evolved into the cellular phone we have become accustomed to, transformation in libraries needs to take place.
I finally understand the saying, "KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!"
